New Beginnings Support Program (NBSP) became a registered charity in November 2003, and began our programming in 2004. NBSP is primarily funded by Corporations, Private Contributors, Foundations and with our Annual Fundraiser.
From our inception, New Beginnings Support Program has had one main goal: properly coach, support and encourage young women to successfully transition from poverty to self- sufficiency. As our participants complete our program we focus on 3 main goals:
1. To create a good life for themselves and their children. Our participants have developed personal, social, financial, career, health and mental wellness skills, so they can reach their full human potential.
2. To build safe and stronger communities as everyone’s responsibility, learning from each other how to become involved as a way to ‘give back’. Women who come from underserved communities will make a difference because they can relate first hand to the challenges and triumphs these diverse populations have faced in a variety of different areas of life.
3. To develop careers, so our participants can become self-sufficient, career-oriented and employable. Statistics show that people who receive social assistance prior to earning a minimum wage are more likely to return to welfare (Welfare Toronto 2001). The goal is to stop the cycle of poverty, one woman at a time.
Regardless if you are low-income, below the poverty line, a lone woman, or a single mom, life-improvement is possible.
